The image itself is of 3 faceless colonial soldiers at a British fort in Penang. The Serani are intrinsically tied to these colonial histories and as someone trying to find my place in this community, it represents this loss of identity that the project explores. Photographed on large format, the print is a 1:1 scale of the negative, just like a contact print, so it is incredibly and beautifully detailed.
